The Casa Gioiosa, part of a former prison complex, is becoming the visitor centre of Porto Conte Nature Reserve. The garden concept is about starting a process, whereby successively parts of the park landscape can be represented in the garden. Using the structure of the former agricultural land, narrow strips are laid out and marked utilizing the existing means: small topographic shifts, tilling, sorting, rearranging, planting. Even small manipulations create spatial and microclimatic differences in the sensible arid setting. This unveiling of the landscape's presence revalidates the barren site as a garden that in the long term will naturally reflect the many layers of culture, ecology, time, and care.
